Jugaad – Wagon R into helicopter
In Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar, two enterprising brothers embarked on a remarkable ‘Jugaadu’ project: they attempted to convert a humble Maruti Suzuki Wagon R into a helicopter. Their ingenuity knew no bounds as they employed the principle of “jugaad,” a term often used in India to describe resourceful innovation or makeshift solutions.
The brothers meticulously welded a rotor blade onto the roof of the car and a tail rotor onto the boot, effectively transforming the vehicle into an unconventional flying machine. Their project was undoubtedly ambitious, but before they could put the finishing touches on their creation by painting it, fate intervened in the form of law enforcement.
During a routine check in the Akbarpur Kotwali area, the modified vehicle caught the attention of the police. It was en route to Akbarpur for a fresh coat of paint when the authorities intervened and seized their creation. A video of the peculiar vehicle, parked outside a police station in Ambedkar Nagar, circulated on social media platforms, capturing the attention of netizens far and wide.
Journalist Priya Singh shared the video, accompanied by a caption in Hindi that translated to English as follows: “In Ambedkar Nagar, UP, two brothers converted a car into a helicopter using jugaad. They were going to get the dent painted when the police caught them. And the vehicle (helicopter) was seized.”
The video footage revealed the surreal sight of a car adorned with helicopter components, surrounded by curious onlookers and a few policemen. The unexpected encounter with the authorities abruptly halted the brothers’ ambitious project, leaving them without the opportunity to see their dream take flight.

Despite the setback, the brothers’ innovative spirit garnered attention and admiration from viewers across the internet. Priya Singh’s post garnered over 68,000 views and sparked a flurry of reactions from intrigued spectators. Some praised the brothers’ creativity and resourcefulness, while others expressed disbelief and amusement at the audacious endeavor.
Indeed, the incident exemplifies the unique blend of innovation, determination, and occasional eccentricity that characterizes India’s spirit. It serves as a reminder that in a country where jugaad is celebrated as a means of overcoming challenges, the boundaries of possibility are often pushed in the most unexpected ways.
