Maharashtra Cabinet Makes Mother’s name mandatory
The Maharashtra state cabinet has recently taken a significant decision to incorporate the mother’s name mandatory requirement in all government documents, starting from May 1st. This decision, aimed at recognizing the crucial role of mothers in society, is poised to impact various official records, including birth certificates, school documents, property papers, Aadhar cards, PAN cards, and others. However, there is an exception for orphans from this requirement.
According to a report by the Times of India, individuals born on or after May 1, 2014, will need to adhere to a specific format for their names on official documents. This format entails listing the individual’s first name, followed by their mother’s first name, and then their father’s first name and surname. The state’s public health department has been tasked with consulting the central government to explore the feasibility of including the mother’s name in birth or death registrations.
For married women, the existing practice of using their name followed by their husband’s first name and surname will remain unchanged. This decision reflects a broader societal shift towards acknowledging and giving due recognition to the vital contributions of mothers, thereby balancing the traditional emphasis placed on the father’s name in official documentation.
In addition to this landmark decision, the Maharashtra cabinet has cleared a slew of other proposals aimed at various developmental initiatives. Noteworthy among these proposals is the approval for the development of a sprawling 300-acre park in Mumbai, which is expected to provide much-needed green space and recreational facilities for residents.Mother’s name mandatory
Furthermore, the cabinet has given the green light for the construction of a guesthouse in Ayodhya, catering specifically to pilgrims from Maharashtra, thereby facilitating their religious journeys and enhancing pilgrimage infrastructure.
The cabinet has also demonstrated its commitment to addressing housing challenges faced by marginalized communities. It has approved measures to reduce stamp duty for residents of BDD chawls and slums, aiming to ease the financial burden on these communities during property transactions. Additionally, plans have been endorsed for the construction of permanent houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana for families of workers from 58 defunct textile mills in Mumbai. This initiative, backed by a significant investment of ₹3000 crore from the state housing department, seeks to provide dignified and secure housing for these families.Mother’s name mandatory
Moreover, the cabinet’s approval of the Transgender Policy 2024 marks a crucial step towards ensuring equal rights and opportunities for transgender individuals in Maharashtra. The policy grants them official recognition and eligibility to access various government schemes, subject to prescribed eligibility criteria.
Overall, the decisions taken by the Maharashtra cabinet underscore a commitment to inclusive development, social justice, and recognition of diverse identities within the state.  Mother’s name mandatory
