Noida Man flees with Thar Suv from Noida Mahindra showroom

Noida Man flees with Thar Suv from Noida Mahindra showroom on Sunday, March 3, Noida police detained a man suspected of absconding with a Mahindra Thar SUV under the pretext of a test drive. The incident reportedly occurred the day before, on Saturday, March 2, in Noida’s Sector 63. The accused, identified as Mohit Chawla, allegedly failed to return the vehicle after the test drive, prompting the owner to lodge a complaint with the local authorities.

According to police spokespersons, the complainant’s report led to the filing of an FIR (First Information Report) under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which pertains to theft. An immediate investigation ensued, resulting in Chawla’s arrest from Block C of Sector 63. The recovery of the stolen Thar SUV from his possession further solidified the case against him.

This wasn’t Chawla’s first brush with the law. Police revealed that he had previously been involved in similar cases of theft in both Delhi and Noida. His arrest highlighted the prevalence of such crimes and the necessity for vigilance among car owners and authorities alike.

This incident parallels another case involving the alleged theft of a vehicle rented from an app-based rental service. In this separate instance, the complainant, Chaitanya Raut, reported that his car had been rented out numerous times between May 2022 and June 2023 using a mobile app. However, a specific rental period in July 2023 resulted in accusations of breach of trust and cheating.

Raut claimed that the renter had failed to return the vehicle as agreed upon and had tampered with the GPS system, rendering it unable to track the car’s location. Consequently, Raut filed a written application with the Park Site police station, which led to the registration of a case under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code.

These incidents underscore the importance of thorough background checks and security measures, both for individuals renting out their vehicles and for those considering test drives. They also highlight the role of law enforcement in swiftly responding to such cases to ensure justice for the victims and deterrence for potential offenders.
