SRH vs CSK: Matthew Hayden questions Ravindra Jadeja‘s ‘flow’ in IPL 2024
SRH vs CSK:Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden expressed doubts about CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja’s performance consistency in the 2024 IPL season after his innings against SRH. Despite Jadeja’s 23-ball 31, Hayden highlighted concerns over his overall form, with Jadeja scoring 84 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 140. Hayden suggested that CSK could have promoted Moeen Ali in the batting order instead of Jadeja due to his perceived lack of form. In the SRH match, Jadeja batted at number 5, ahead of players like Daryl Mitchell, MS Dhoni, and Moeen Ali, prompting Hayden’s remarks. This comes as CSK, the defending champions, have won two and lost one match in the IPL 2024 season.
Hayden praised Dube’s impressive performance, noting his impactful contributions with several big sixes. He expressed a desire for either Gaikwad or Ravindra to capitalize on their opportunities. Hayden suggested a strategic adjustment by promoting Moeen Ali in the batting order due to Jadeja’s perceived lack of form. Chennai began steadily with Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring well initially, but both fell to opposition bowlers. Despite losing early wickets, CSK stabilized through a solid partnership between Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube. Dube’s aggressive batting, including boundaries and sixes, was instrumental in CSK’s recovery. However, Rahane’s dismissal by Jaydev Unadkat halted their momentum.

Jadeja remained unbeaten on 31 off 23 balls while Mitchell scored an 11-ball 13 before T Natarajan sent him packing in the final over. The Hyderabad crowd upped the decibel levels when Dhoni walked out to bat in the final over. However, the five-time IPL champion could only score 1 runs off 2 balls as CSK finished with 165 for 5 in the first innings.
Chennai started steadily with Rachin Ravindra and skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad batting confidently in the initial overs. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar dismissed Ravindra in the fourth over, followed by Gaikwad falling to Shahbaz Ahmed after scoring 26 runs off 21 balls.
With CSK struggling at 54 for 2, Ajinkya Rahane and Shivam Dube formed a crucial partnership, adding 65 runs. Dube’s aggressive batting, scoring 45 runs off 24 balls with two boundaries and four sixes, was instrumental in CSK’s resurgence, especially against spin bowling in IPL 2024.
After Dube’s dismissal, Rahane fell to Jaydev Unadkat in the 14th over, departing after contributing 35 runs from 30 balls.
