Sonia, A class 10 student killed by coaching teacher
Sanjay Kumar Patel, the operator of a coaching center, was arrested on Friday for the murder of a tenth-grade student named Sonia (name changed) in Kapsethi. The accused allegedly killed Sonia and disposed of her body on a Varanasi-bound train on February 21. Police, after conducting a thorough investigation and gathering scientific evidence, apprehended Sanjay in the Gaharpur area with the help of special operation group, surveillance cell, and Kapsethi police station officers. They also recovered the mobile phone Sanjay used to communicate with her.
During his interrogation, Sanjay confessed to the crime. He revealed that Sonia, who had enrolled in his coaching center in 2022 as a ninth-grade student, became close to him, and they engaged in a physical relationship. In November 2023, Sonia informed Sanjay about her pregnancy, but despite his pressure for an abortion, she refused. On February 19, Sanjay drugged Sonia at his coaching center and suffocated her while she was in a drowsy state by covering her mouth with a plastic sheet. He then tied her hands and legs and placed her body in a gunny bag.
On February 20, Sanjay transported the gunny bag containing her body to Sevapuri railway station on his motorcycle and disposed of it between two toilets on the Lucknow-Varanasi Intercity Express. The bag was discovered on February 21, leading to the identification of Sonia’s body. Her father had reported her missing on February 21, and the police contacted him immediately after finding the body of a girl. Following this discovery, an FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act.
