In a distressing animal cruelty incident that has come to light from the Mukerian area of Hoshiarpur, Punjab, a man was caught on camera disturbing a stray dog for what he claimed to be ‘fun.’ The appalling video, which circulated on social media, depicts the man, identified as Daler Singh, engaging in despicable behavior towards the helpless animal. Initially, he can be seen inappropriately touching and teasing the dog, before callously lifting it by one of its legs and swinging it around. The act of cruelty culminates with him hurling the distressed dog onto the roadside.
This heart-wrenching display of animal abuse prompted widespread condemnation from the public, with many expressing outrage and disgust at Singh’s actions. The video, shared on Instagram by a user with the username “samrai.h,” quickly gained attention, drawing the ire of animal rights activists and concerned citizens alike.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the Animal Welfare & Care Services Charitable Trust (AWCS) swiftly intervened, urging members of the community to help identify the perpetrator. Thanks to their efforts and the collaboration of concerned citizens, Singh was apprehended by local authorities within 48 hours of the video’s emergence.
However, the response to Singh’s reprehensible behavior took a surprising turn. Rather than facing legal repercussions for his actions, he was given the opportunity to issue a formal apology. In a recorded video statement, accompanied by a written apology, Singh expressed remorse for his actions and acknowledged the gravity of his wrongdoing
As part of his apology, Singh was tasked with a form of restitution; he was assigned to feed and care for dogs in his village under the supervision of AWCS. This measure was intended to not only hold Singh accountable for his actions but also to educate him about the importance of compassion and empathy towards animals.
Despite these efforts at reconciliation, many individuals and organizations, including AWCS, expressed frustration and disappointment at the leniency of Singh’s punishment. They emphasized the need for stronger measures to combat animal cruelty and ensure that perpetrators face appropriate consequences for their actions.
AWCS further disclosed that Singh’s family had pleaded for leniency, citing concerns about his future prospects and potential repercussions on his employment opportunities or aspirations to settle abroad.
